Overview
Inhabiating a single Star System in a region known as Astrid's Necklace, Gardinaal had weathered the Age of Strife intact. Having since abandoned Warp travel, the Gardinaal were content with lordship of their single system. With a population of over 100 billion, the population of the Gardinaal dominion was enormous for their relatively small territory. The territory was a strict but efficient caste system, with the High Lords of Gardinaal ruling over a population assigned to various classes. When one became too old or infirm, they were killed and recycled for the greater benefit of the state. The Lords of Gardinaal themselves were mythic figures said to exist outside of death.[2]
The military of the Gardinaal was based around genetically engineered warriors, some of which could survive in the void of space. Many of these warriors wield gamma radiation weaponry, while their relatively small ships utilized particle beam weaponry.[2]
After a mutually hostile first contact that saw violence during negotiations, the Imperium would invade the Gardinaal as part of the Great Crusade. In the subsequent Fall of the Lords of Gardinaal, the millenia-hold civilization was subdued by the Imperials under Ferrus Manus. After the battle, famine and hardship devastated the planets surviving population. However, while the planet was devastated in the battle, much of its heavy industry remained intact and it has since become a valuable Imperial world.[1]
Worlds
Gardinaal's territory consisted of eleven worlds with hundreds of moons and thousands of asteroid and orbital space colonies.[2]
- Gardinaal Prime - Capital
- Gardinaal Quintus - Hot world compared to Jupiter
- Gardinaal Undecimus - sunless world with nitrogen glaciers
